Box Retriever is made by 3351 Labs, a one-person studio in Texas. The short version: there's no account, no cloud and no analytics. Your bins, items and photos stay on your phone, and 3351 Labs never receives them.
What stays on your phone
Everything you put in Box Retriever (rooms, shelves, bins, items, photos, tags, notes, values and keywords) is stored only on your phone. We don't run a server that receives it, and there's no way for us to see it.
Photos and the camera
Box Retriever asks for the camera and your photo library so you can add photos and scan QR labels. Photo suggestions (spotting items and reading text such as book titles) run entirely on your phone. Your photos are never uploaded.
Google ML Kit
To scan QR labels (iPhone and Android), and to suggest items on Android, Box Retriever uses Google's ML Kit, which runs on your phone. Google says ML Kit sends Google basic diagnostics: device details such as the model and system version, app details, and performance and usage measurements of those features. It does not send your photos, the text it reads or your lists. Google describes this for iOS and Android.
QR labels and boxretriever.app
A printed label holds a link to boxretriever.app with the bin's name, where it lives and its list of items as of the day you printed it. That list is in the part of the link after the "#", which a phone's browser keeps to itself and doesn't send to the website. The page reads the list right on the phone that scanned it.
Anyone who scans a label can see what's on it, so leave anything private off the bins you label.
Websites
boxretriever.com and boxretriever.app use no cookies, no analytics and no ads. They're hosted by Cloudflare, which, like any web host, handles technical details such as your IP address to deliver the pages and keep them secure. We don't receive or keep any of it.
Purchases
Box Retriever Plus is bought through the App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google handle the payment; we never see your payment details. The app asks the store whether you've bought Plus so it can unlock it.
Backups, PDFs and spreadsheets
Backups, label sheets and inventories are made on your phone. They go only where you send them, using your phone's share sheet or print screen.
Children
Box Retriever collects no personal information from anyone, children included.
Deleting your data
Delete items and bins in the app, or delete the app to remove everything. Backups you saved elsewhere are yours to delete.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
